Got a bunch of mysterious medical symptoms I need to check out. Seeing an internist at the beginning of next month to clear it up. Then another appointment with my gyno in the middle of March. We'll see how that goes.
I usually try to stay away from Fiber One bars because I distinctly remember them containing High Fructose Corn Syrup, but I read the label today, and they contain High Maltose Corn Syrup. I think maybe they switched the ingredient because HFCS has so much bad PR. Did a bit of research and here's what I found:
Maltose is a different chemical composition of a sugar
Corn syrup can be processed with different combinations and concentrations of various sugars
HFCS has a very high concentration of fructose
HMCS has a very high concentration of maltose
Maltose is the chemical step right before fructose, so it's just slightly less processed.
not what you would consider to be a health food.
Providing 35% of your daily fiber, Fiber One bars are endorsed by the BestLife diet but they taste like candy.
Baked Lays and Progresso soup are also endorsed by BestLife, but they seem hardly like health foods.

NPR had a great podcast on how your brain reacts to food. They found that individuals who were previously on diets or had lost a lot of weight had a very emotional response to food. Kirstie Alley often comes to mind with all her yo-yo diets and relapses at Jenny Craig. In contrast, people who have a very rational, utilitarian response to food were more likely to be in state of homeostasis. I want to think that I'm the latter because I've never been overweight. But I know I've tried different diets before, and in high school I was a little compulsive about food. I know my response to food is oftentimes emotional and physical. I mean, how could something that stimulates 3 of 5 senses not be enticing in that way.
In a slightly unrelated note, here are some (more at the link) great Iphone cases:
These particular designs elicit pretty emotional responses from me too, mainly because they remind me of my boyfriend. HA. From top to bottom: tire tracks, fish eye lens, and bacon (web designer depot).
